EDITOR VISITS BUCKINGHAM PALACE

In mid-July our Editor Lynn Hilton was delighted, and honoured, to be invited, together with her husband John, to one of the Royal Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace. She was lucky that the day was hot and sunny and she tells us that it was an unforgetable experience. Afternoon tea was very traditional, comprising cucumber sandwiches and dainty cakes and pastries. Lemon barley water and ice-cream was also served under the trees. Two military bands played for the guests and the Yeoman of the Guard were on duty to escort the Queen.

Unfortunately we cannot include photos as cameras are not permitted in the palace grounds.

VISIT BY THE MAYOR 2008

On 7th August 2008, The Talking Newspaper for the Blind was honoured to receive a visit from The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Macclesfield, Councillor Thelma Jackson. The Mayor spent more than an hour talking to the team of volunteers.

During her visit, The Mayor very kindly agreed to an exclusive interview with The Editor, Lynn Hilton in which she spoke of her pride, tinged with sadness, at being the last Mayor of Macclesfield. We were all impressed that with a heavy workload during her term of office, she still found time to support her local charities, and was that weekend making strawberry jam to be sold in aid of The East Cheshire Hospice!
